The Dobson Shepherd’s Hut at Oxney Organic Estate in Beckley, just north of Rye in East Sussex is located in a small paddock facing the Chardonnay in the Dobson Block next to one of our many giant oak trees. The shepherd’s hut includes a double bed, a small kitchen corner with a fridge, cooking plate and sink and pots and utensils to make simple meals, a small table and chairs for meals inside when the weather isn’t at its best. Plus a bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet.
The exterior is clad in a mixture of oak weatherboarding and reclaimed corrugated metal. Large French doors lead down oak steps to an outside space with locally made chestnut hurdles, a designer fire pit with a tripod BBQ grill surrounded by low oak stools, deckchairs and a picnic table.
Inside are wooden white painted walls and floors, calico and linen curtains and blinds and shelves made from oak from the farm. The look is calm and clean, white combined with natural linen and soft grey velvet. Plus a few wool throws so you can enjoy the outdoors even if the weather works against you. You will feel relaxed the moment you spot this lovely shepherd’s hut hand made on site by our favourite carpenter.
The shepherd’s hut is in a vineyard and it would be mad not to include a complimentary bottle of English wine made by our winemaker here at Oxney. Also, take the opportunity to join one of our vineyard and winery tours and learn about winemaking and viticulture in England.
Parking to the shepherd’s hut is in the main vineyard car park, around 200 meters from the hut. To get your belongings down to the hut we provide a wheelbarrow.
£250 for a week end (Friday-Sunday). Week days £100/night, minimum two nights.
The shepherd’s hut is operated by the Beckley Shepherd’s Hut Company Ltd.
