Oxney Organic Estate is the UK’s largest single estate, organic vineyard. We have over 35 acres of vines, planted between 2012 and 2018. We have planted Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Précoce, Pinot Meunier and Seyval Blanc vines and we make English organic sparkling and still wines.
The winery
The winery is located in an old Grade II listed square oast house. The building has been converted to house the state of the art wine making technology required to make top quality organic English wine. Receiving visitors is also a top priority and our extensive restoration project has created a great location for winery tours and tastings.
Organic soil
The Tunbridge Wells Sand soil in the vineyard is a fine sand and silt loam formed during the early Cretaceous period, 140-100 million years ago. A terrific growing medium for the vines. Our sub soil is clay.
The soil is our most important priority in the vineyard. Every year we spread farm yard manure and compost to encourage the microorganisms in the soil. To manage the weeds and grasses under the vines we use a mechanical cultivator combined with hand weeding. A lot of hard work which creates a wonderful terroir for the vines to thrive and produce tasty grapes.
